Independent assessors

The role of the independent assessor is to ensure that appointments have been made on merit after a fair, open and transparent process and that they comply with both the Commission’s procedures and the Code of Practice laid down by the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments (OCPA). Independent assessors are involved in shortlisting and interviewing candidates as part of the selection panel.

OCPA is putting independent assessors for all Government departments through an accreditation process, without which they will not be able to practise in future. The independent assessors acting for the Appointments Commission will be accredited during 2008.

Assessors are independent consultants, not Appointments Commission employees. They are recruited through an advertised open competition. There are currently no vacancies for independent assessors with the Commission.
