Data Protection and the Freedom of Information Act

The Appointments Commission holds a considerable amount of personal data provided by the people who apply for posts and those who are appointed.

All information is held in confidence within the provisions of the Data Protection Act and will not be disclosed to anyone except those involved in the selection process.

Personal information of other people is exempt from the rights conferred by the Freedom of Information Act.

The Freedom of Information Act requires all public authorities to produce a publication scheme, to inform the public how and when public bodies will make information routinely available. The Commission’s publication scheme was approved by the Information Commission in 2003.
