Appointment process for health appointments in the NHS
How we will handle your application:
- We will acknowledge receipt of your application form.
- Your application will first be checked for completeness and eligibility for the post for which you have applied.
- The shortlisting panel will then assess your completed form to see whether you have the general personal qualities and skills specified for the post. The four or five candidates who best demonstrate that they have the specified skills will be selected for interview. We will let you know whether or not you will be interviewed.
- Shortlisting and interview panels for Chairs will normally consist of a Regional Commissioner, the Strategic Health Authority Chair or other local Chair and an accredited independent assessor.
- Shortlisting and interview panels for Board members normally consist of two local NHS Chairs and an accredited independent assessor.
- You will be asked questions by the interview panel to assess whether you can demonstrate you have the qualities specified.
- If, in the view of the panel, you have the skills for the post and are one of the best candidates, your name will be considered further for the vacancy.
- The Regional Commissioner of the Appointments Commission will recommend successful candidates to the Commission.
- The Appointments Commission makes the final decision on all appointments. If you are successful you will receive a letter from the Chair of the Appointments Commission inviting you to serve on an NHS Board.
