Appointment process for other Government department bodies
The Appointments Commission now undertakes recruitment and selection for public bodies sponsored by Government Departments other than the Department of Health.
The recruitment and selection process varies slightly according to our brief from the Department concerned. It always follows the Code of the Office of the Commissioner for Public Appointments (OCPA) and incorporates the following steps:
- The post is advertised.
- We acknowledge receipt of your application form.
- Your application is first checked for completeness and eligibility for the post for which you have applied.
- The shortlisting panel then assesses your completed form to see whether you have the general personal qualities and skills specified for the post. The four or five candidates who best demonstrate that they have the specified skills are selected for interview. We let you know whether or not you will be interviewed.
- The composition of shortlist and interview panels normally consists of a senior member of the relevant Department, the chair of the body concerned and an independent assessor, although this may vary for some posts.
- You are asked questions by the interview panel to assess whether you can demonstrate you have the qualities specified.
- If, in the view of the panel, you have the skills for the post and are one of the best candidates, your name will be considered further for the vacancy.
- The final decision on the appointment is made by a Minister from the candidates recommended by the interview panel. If you are successful you will receive a letter from the Minister inviting you to serve on the organisation.
