Strategic Health Authority boards
Strategic Health Authorities provide leadership to the improvement of health and to the development of health services in their areas. They are responsible for performance management and accountability of local NHS Trusts and PCTs. They also take the lead in the development of local clinical and public health networks.
A Strategic Health Authority board consists of:
- a non-executive chair (appointed by the Appointments Commission);
- normally five non-executive directors (appointed by the Appointments Commission);
- up to five executive members, including the chief executive and finance director.
